OP 311 or OP 312 or.. ? Link to "autos-markt.com" Link to "www.mercedes-fans.de" in the last link it says: Not exactly identical per se, but most likely the same coachbuilder. But who was it? Who/what is Salamander in this context? |

Owner. From translator: "According to the email from Mr. Rolf Weller, it is a Mercedes-Benz chassis. Year of construction 1955. The Salamander company had a fleet of these buses (an estimated 12 pieces). The next season's shoe collection was housed in these buses. With this, the sellers drove to the retailers and dispatched the goods, i.e. the orders were made between Salamander and the retailers in the rolling office. Incidentally, Salamander had a modern structure. At the beginning of the 1960s, orders were placed with punch cards. The beginnings of the digital age." https://www.oldtimer-os-st.de/oldie-des-monats/mercedes-benz-bus/ |

Salamander AG of Kornwestheim (a major German shoe brand) operated more than 12 of these sales buses - here's a promotional postcard showing 16 units:![]() A few still exist, nobody - not even the seller of one - mentions a coachbuilder. My money is on Karl Kässbohrer Fahrzeugwerke of Ulm. Admittedly not all of my money, just a partial amount. ![]() |
