Well spotted. I think that the design of the wheels and the shape of the scuttle and door cut-out are just as compelling in evidence terms as any numberplate, upon which much misguided reliance is occasionally placed. Did the Post Office actually use any? -- Last edit: 2020-03-27 12:41:58 |

Not impossible but nothing I know of to confirm it. I suspect it was just a suitable available 1920s vehicle. Would they mostly be horse drawn at the time? Purchasing of Royal Mail vehicles was down to whatever the local GPO office wanted, from memory it was not centralised until the mid 1930s. "Make & Model Unic Van (sole survivor?) Registration CK 1525 Year 1915 Colour Green Chassis No. C9L6 560 This Unic van is believed to date from around 1915 and appears based on the 12/14hp taxi – though in the absence of any registration documents it is hard to confirm this. Invoices with the vehicle suggest that it was fully restored in the late 1960s when it was also rebodied to a high standard in the original body style. A document with the vehicle dating from 1969 states that it was once part of a fleet of such vans owned by Cole Brooks of Reading who ran a chain of meat and fish shops up until the 1930s..... quite possibly the only survivor of its type in the world ....." from auction listing |

Michelin tyres and disc wheels, date from late 1923; however if concluded its from 1915 (chassis data?) 1914-1918 manufacture must be questionable. |
