These are early post-war "Behelfs-Krankenwagen" (auxiliary ambulances), often built from cut-down sedans and fitted with very simple plywood or press board bodies. Many local body shops built them at the time, but we seldom have that many of the same style in a row - because Ctrl.+C and Ctrl.+V wasn't that much of a common practice back then.

@Mystery Man: Do we know where this picture was taken? My hopes aren't very high, but you never know...

Because it's factory-built! The vanity of MB's publicity department is legendary, but we don't have to wear their glasses and can be more precise. ;)
