Christies wrote Ex- Belgian Royal Family Cadillac Series 62 Convertible State Limosine Year: 1953 Chassis Number: 556 2377 947 Engine Number: 546 032 967 European registration documents Engine: V8, overhead valve, 331 cu. ins., 210 bhp at 4,150 rpm; Gearbox: four speed column shift Hydra-Matic automatic; Suspension: independent front with shocks, springs and ride stabiliser bar, rear leaf springs with shock absorbers; Brakes: Bendix hydraulic four wheel drum. Left hand drive. Black with black interior [...] Specific history of this car Ordered for the Royal House of Belgium, this convertible variant was used in the mid 1950s to transport King Baudouin at various state occasions. In order for the King to remain both in view and shelter, a fully-removable Plexiglas roof was specially commissioned and remains with the car today. Condition Recently inspected by a Christie's specialist, this Series 62 convertible is described as being in good running order but could benefit from some minor detailing in places. Wearing a state flag on the front passenger wing, this intriguing example offers both stylish 50s transport and royal provenance and in our opinion is worthy of close attention.
