Tarantino actually had an opportunity to use the real Manson family 1959 Ford, but decided it would be "too creepy." He settled for creating a replica instead.

They did use the real car in Helter Skelter /vehicle_231308-Ford-Fairlane-500-1959.html as you wrote there.

Original California license plate GYY435, VIN #B9LS141622, Inca Gold with black/gold interior, now on historical license plates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owzwOnOy_qY (note skull on rear seat)

"While the original 1959 Ford Fairlane was offered to the filmmakers, Tarantino and the production declined. This reconstruction - the only car of its kind made for the production - was created instead. This formerly black 1959 Ford Galaxie is painted by production in a distinctive two-tone blend of Inca Gold and cream and visibly weathered to match the real-world vehicle, with applied rust and dents throughout the winged chrome details, and cracked white and black leather on the interior. It features the VIN number C9AS185879, a V8 engine, a pair of prop California license plates numbered "357 AGH", and a new 350 turbo automatic transmission added for the ease of the actors. Estimate: $30,000 - 50,000" https://propstore.com/entertainment-memorabilia-live-auction-la-2020/

That photo will one day be known not just as that of a car being driven by a fictional member of the Manson cult but by the first actor to have played the role of Elvis Presley in a large screen biopic.

The character that drove the vehicle in the film wasn't a fictional member of the Manson Cult.

The character that Austin Butler (the actor who would later play Elvis Presley) portrayed was real Manson Cult member, Charles "Tex" Watson.

Watson earnt the nickname as he was born in Dallas, Texas, he joined the Manson Cult in January 1967 after being introduced to the cult by musician and member of the Beach Boys, Dennis Wilson.
