And it's probably an Ex-Military ambulance,all branches I believe had these? I know the Army did,as well as the Navy? (And one just like this had a role in history? US Navy issue.)

That's exactly what it is! The Superior Coach Corp. of Lima, Ohio, built these for the military and they are easily recognized by the special roof cap made from steel.
