I'm fairly sure this is a Bush Ranger, the Australian development of Barry Chandler's Dakar 4x4.
The Dakar 4x4 was a development of the Adams Rotrax, stretching the bodywork to fit the Range Rover chassis.

It is not an Aussie Bushranger / Bushrangie, nor is it a UK based Dakar. It is a Rotrax.

1. The front bar is distinctively Rotrax. Look at every other photo of a Rotrax.

2. Look at the front headlights. Every single Bushranger / Bushrangie in Australia has the headlights built into the actual shell; they are not mounted on any barwork. The first six vehicles that were made in Australia utilise the imported Dakar Kit cars shells. I know this as fact since I have two of the six in my shed. Dakars mounted their headlights on a similiar, but a very 'dakar' distinctive bar.

3. Note how the front bonnet slopes down from the windscreen towards the front bar - and look at the side wings / mud guards. They slope downwards to the front... or putting it another way, thicker at the windscreen, narrower at the front. The side profile of the front of the bonnet, compared to the side profile at the windscreen... This is not either a Dakar or a Bushranger design. Look at other photos of the Rotrax. No Bushranger, nor any Dakar, were ever designed or made with this front sloping business. This is the biggest give away that it is a Rotrax.

4. Just looking at the width of the front of the bonnet compared to width of the two side-wings. It is much narrower than a Dakar or a Bushranger, and compare this to other photos of the Rotrax. This vehicle is a Rotrax.

5. The entire vehicle just looks small...!

... taking this further after googling, and bearing in mind this is a South African film:

"There is a company in South Africa (Rotrax S.A.) that have based the vehicle on Nissan 4x4 (Patrol) running gear and are now selling the vehicle in a minor role to the South African Defence Force" - http://www.4wdonline.com/Conv/Rotrax.html

"30 September 2011: The South African-built Rotrax El Macho car could be in series production as early as next year, with an end to long-running legal and financial problems finally in sight." - http://www.iol.co.za/motoring/el-macho-on-track-for-production-1147853 (with muddy picture).

So Rotrax El Macho seems pretty close and compatible with film date. More/better info always welcome ......

My baaad! You are correct it's a Rotrax. I thought the lights were built into the bodywork, making it a Bushie. On second viewing it is also too short. =;-)X
