![]() ![]() 7 minute film taken from ![]() British Transport Films Volume Five: Off the Beaten Track 2-DVD set; youtube link here. "11 August 1968 is a highly significant date in British railway history, marking the official end of regular mainline steam operation. As we see the last steam train crossing the Pennines and hear the Edwardian music-hall song 'Watching the Trains Go Out', Sir John Benjamin begins to reminisce. His nostalgic verse and prose recall the great trains of old as he moves through a photographic exhibition in Kingsway." Quaint little film, slightly famous. Only posting it because the Cortinas have an unexpected twist. Rejects: - old photo of Euston with very early taxis ![]() ![]() Models: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() - Consul Capri, Triumph 2000 Mk1, Morris 1100, 2 unconvincing Consul Corsairs, and the dark blue is a Vanden Plas 4-Litre R. Which is where the problem starts - I can't think of anyone who made a VdP 4-Litre R - certainly not a 1:43 diecast. They all look plastic, and best guess is a large scale (1:24??) series by someone like Triang or Frog. Any ideas?? |

Maybe 1960s Hong Kong plastic stuff then?? They often copied and upsized eg Corgi, Dinky, Matchbox with various anonymous or here-today-gone-tomorrow makers names. But the VdP is still odd as I can't trace an original for them to copy from ... |

BFi call him "Sir John Benjamin" in their official blurb on the youtube page linked above. No apples have attacked me recently. |
