![]() ![]() "Directed by acclaimed photographer and film-maker Alasdair McLellan to accompany Saint Etienne's first sample-driven album since their 1993 classic So Tough, I've Been Trying To Tell You is a road movie like no other." - all of which sounds very exciting for a St Etienne fan like me, particularly as many of their associated film projects (concept films, documentary soundtracks, song videos etc) are almost always worth watching and beautifully produced. But this one is pants. The album is pleasant but bland - they've done much better - and the film makes a token effort at being a road movie around scenic and industrial bits of Britain, so some nice shots and good cinematography. However the director clearly has a fixation for topless young male models, inserting several long slo-mo sequences of athletic bare-chested youths looking moody and lingeringly exhibiting their torsos for no real reason and without any connection to the music. So unless you share the director's obsession, it's a mess and not worth paying money for. No free-to-view option found online, but film is on BFi subscription page and there's an album CD/DVD double pack, but my DVD did not play properly and online comments suggest this is a frequent experience. Good old Red Funnel. The Fromstaffs family has used the ferries on lots of occasions, including the time when we grounded the Morris 1800 Mk3, splitting the exhaust system where the short piece of flexible tubing joins the manifold to the exhaust pipe work. You could hear when we drove off the boat! Dad and I put a new exhaust front section on in the hotel car park. |
