![]() ![]() 1991 made-for-TV biopic about George Herman "Babe" Ruth, one of the best baseball players to ever live, if not THE best! This film chronicles Babe Ruth's life from getting his start at St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys to his final game for the Boston Braves. Ruth's life in between games is shown as well, including both of his marriages to Helen Woodford and Claire Hodgson and the births of his daughters. Numerous big names in baseball from players to coaches to sports announcers are portrayed in this film, such as Lou Gehrig, Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, Ty Cobb, Eddie Bennet, Bill Killefer, Waite Hoyt, Jumpin' Joe Dugan, and Hod Lisenbee. Starring Stephen Lang as Babe Ruth! The epilogue cards use the Pulitzer-winning Babe Ruth Bows Out photograph but erroneously state that Babe Ruth was 54 years old when he died. He was actually 53. ![]() ![]() ![]() An infinitely better and far more respectful portrayal of the life of Babe Ruth than The Babe Ruth Story. Stephen Lang's portrayal of Ruth also stands head and shoulders above the dim-witted miracle working simpleton that William Bendix portrayed the Sultan of Swat as. This movie also aired six months before The Babe starring John Goodman hit theaters in April 1992. Set from 1909 to May 30th, 1935 Airdate: October 6th, 1991 |
