Roadkill is the automotive adventure show starring David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of HOT ROD. It airs once a month on YouTube.com/MotorTrend. Each episode gets over 1 million views. They have a website http://www.roadkill.com/ which is going to be released in July.In Roadkill, Freiburger and Finnegan hit the road in everything from a 1968 Ford Ranchero to a 1500 horsepower Camaro called the F-Bomb. Just getting to their destination is an adventure. Each episode is between 20-45 minutes long. Roadkill is sponsored by Dickies and Dodge. This is a link for the commercial. We almost need a new category for this. As youtube is starting to bridge the gap with content. Maybe even a new part of the site? I dunno, but it would be cool to see stuff like Mighty Car Mods listed also. |

That's just what we don't need... all the car shows in the world. This site was made for fiction, everything else is secondary. |

I personally think it wouldn't be a bad idea to allow online series like this, but a new category would be needed. That also makes me think, don't allow this, but allow series that are exclusive to subscription based streaming services like Netflix to be listed as TV Series, even though broadcast TV and streaming services are not the same, when it would probably be more sensible to give them their own classification as well. As for this, an 'Online Series' category might be a good idea, just set it to the same regulations as music videos, so they can't be added to the completed list at the top of the page. I mean, we allow documentaries, music videos, non-fiction and reality TV, so why not allow online series like this? |

Like with documentaries and televised car shows we do allow some of this kind of show - but only the best known ones like Jay Leno's Garage and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. It's worth bearing in mind that we've never really liked to list car TV. |

I'd say it's pretty well known. MT's YouTube page has well over 3 million subscribers, and just the Roadkill playlist has a combined 11,502,816 views on 45 videos. They also tend to get recognition through various popular enthusiast websites. |

carcrasher if you follow the admin section you'll know we try to move away from this stuff. (Maybe this particular show is an exception, I haven't seen it) |
◊ 2015-06-28 03:52 |
I understand. An exception is exactly what I'm asking about because, like Sandie said, some shows like this have been allowed, though those ones are really well known. I'm just curious as to if the channel's subscribers and the series' view accumulated view count as a whole is high enough to warrant such an exception. If you look at the stats, Roadkill has over 11 and a half million views on 45 videos. Let's compare that to Jay Leno's Garage. The Featured Videos playlist has 113 videos and a total of 1,314,681 views. Then, there's the Official playlist. 98 videos, 814,651 views. Finally, the Classics playlist. 70 videos, 254,220 views. Combine that together, that's 281 videos, give or take any videos that appear in 2 or more of those playlists, and a total of 2,383,552 views. That's only 20% of the views that Roadkill has from just 45 videos, which is only about 16% of the combined total of those three JLG playlists. I'd imagine that if Jay Leno's Garage is allowed on here, the stats certainly are in Roadkill's favor to be added as well. |

I don't know how those stats add up to 1.3 million for Jay Leno as there are individual episodes with 1.8 millions views https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaOfgevPphk Anyway car shows don't have much interest for the site, and this would be a seriously picture-heavy page. So I have to say no but another admin may be persuaded. -- Last edit: 2015-06-28 04:26:20 |

Jay Leno was a special case because the guy is known for his car collection and that was a useful reference for the rest of the site. But in general car shows should not be listed, there are just too many, and that's too far from the original theme of the site: cars in movies. (and some other shows previously listed don't have their place on the site IMHO, so they should not be used as argument if we listed that we should list this) -- Last edit: 2015-06-28 13:26:54 |

I guess the playlist views refer to people who have watched the playlist (multiple videos) rather than a total of viewers for every video. For example there's an episode of Roadkill that has over 5million views: https://youtu.be/jkBe7wBy_fY |
◊ 2015-06-28 19:13 |
5 million is impressive, but compare that with random cat videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzzjgBAaWZw 46 million views https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw4KVoEVcr0 58 million views https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLDbGqJ2KYk 32 million views, and that's for a puking kitten. |

They're all doing well, aside from the late Benjamin Orr. They just finished another tour back in April. -- Last edit: 2018-07-17 06:53:21 |
