![]() 1977 made-for-TV crime drama about convicted robber, kidnapper and serial rapist Caryl Chessman aka the "Red Light Bandit", played by Alan Alda in quite the turnaround from his usual roles. The film details Chessman's time on death row as he awaited execution via the gas chamber, during which he wrote several books including his memoir "Cell 2455, Death Row" which was adapted into a movie in 1955 by prolific director Fred F. Sears. While researching Mr. Chessman, I found out that he at one point was in solitary confinement with Merle Haggard, at the time a petty criminal. Upon learning who Chessman and witnessing his preparing for execution, Haggard went on the straight and narrow, later becoming one of the biggest names in country music. Final film of actor Walter McGinn, airing posthumously six months after he died from injuries received in a car accident at only 40 ![]() Set from January 23rd, 1948 to May 2nd, 1960 Airdate: September 25th, 1977 |
