This Lifetime TV biopic about the first African-American winning gold medalist and gymnast, Gabby Douglas was actually filmed in Manitoba, Canada, even if the story takes place in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Des Moines, Iowa. So, some vehicles which were listed as built and made for USA were actually built and made for Canada. It stars Regina King ("227", "Ray", "Southland", "The Boondocks") as Natalie Hawkins (Gabby's mother), 11-year old actress Sydney Mikayla (seen on the NBC comedy series "Whitney" among others) as Gabby Douglas during her child years (from 6 to 12 years old) Imani Hakim (best known for portraying Tonya Rock on the comedy series "Everybody Hates Chris")as the gymnast during her teen years (from 13 to 16 years old), S. Epatha Merkerson (best known for portraying Lieutenant Van Buren on "Law & Order" from 1993 to 2010) as Gabby's grandma and also Brian Tee (Takashi or "Drift King", the villain from "The Fast and The Furious : Tokyo Drift") as Gabby's Chinese coach Liang Chow. There's also a special appearance of Gabby Douglas herself and her siblings themselves in the TV movie.
