Canty birthday, mah mukker! ![]() (1980-87 small VW logo with the 1981+ "2nd" grille, by the way. But if I'm not mistaken, North American markets got only square headlamps from 1986 onwards, so a 1981-85 model if a Diesel model, or a 1982-85 if a gasoline propelled van) |

If your book says so, then it's OK in my book. But: Please consider, it seems like diesel engines were offered from MY1982, while the 1.9 Wasserboxer was introduced during 1983 spring From MY1984 only the Wasserboxer was offered. BTW, Pickup in Canada, not Pick-up, first available brochures are for MY1984. |

I don't know for Canada, but they were available from February 1981 onward, in Europe. My bad, introduced in mid-1982 (calendar year) as 1983 model year indeed, in Europe. But the last air-cooled engine was built in November (my book) or December (this site) 1982. So watter-cooled vans must have been the only "option" sooner than the 1984 MY. Once again, keep in mind than brochures are rarely changed during a MY, even if some changes took place. By the way, didn't you say not that long ago that brochures weren't trustworthy? ![]() The 1984 brochure you link to is for commercial versions, while the others proposed are related to the general public. Due to the small amount of literature avalaible on this site (it's not a criticism, just an observation), I'm not sure that this should be understood as a "non-available" body, but more likely as a lack of document. A 1983 Canadian brochure about the commercial T3s without the pickup version would be a better clue... -- Last edit: 2016-11-19 08:12:59 |

Please let me rephrase that, the watercooled gasoline engine was introduced to the North-American market during the spring of 1983, while the diesel engine was available MY1982-83 only. That would leave only the Wasserboxer for 1984 onwards, wouldn't it? (Those brochures were not the only source, btw, just used to confirm. But I will leave that out from now on if it gets confusing.) Edit: For your edited comment, yes, that was my point also. -- Last edit: 2016-11-19 08:22:40 |
