The Excursion was a Ford SuperDuty 3/4-ton truck chassis with an SUV body and typically a V10 gasoline engine or a V8 turbo diesel engine. Little known is that the 6.0 turbo diesel got about 20mpg at cruising speed and 15mpg in the city and also qualified to be designated as a LEV "low emission vehicle" by the US government. The media widely criticized the Excursion as excessively large even though many smaller non-diesel SUV's were less fuel-efficient. The Limited model had a nice leather interior and other comforts. The earlier 7.3 turbo diesel made less horsepower than the 6.0 but offered slightly better fuel economy and in some cases dramatically better reliability. -- Last edit: 2012-09-11 06:36:41 |
