Strange but 1991 MY only. Yes, I know, the production ceased in April 1991 however any 1.1 was exported to Poland ealier than late 1990 (!). |

My French is very bad (only for 3 years two hours per week in school), but before Andre Malraux is blaring about the marvellous Eastern Block cars, just a simple, true fact: the Trabant 1.1 was, as the Wartburg 1.3, too nothing more than a terrible shitbox. A worst cobbled piece of shit, where body and chassis were 40ies technology and the engine from early 70ies - and none of them fits together. This is not my private wisdom as a notoriuos Eastern shit hater, it's the reality, which the owners and especially the makers of those clunkers can personally confirm. |

Err, nearly all cars, you have mentioned, are just derivates of Western cars and not unique Eastern Block. If you separate them, it's not much left over ![]() |

Of course it is. Ask the people, who had to do with it. The mechanics, the workers and the engineer, who were forced to to shit cobblework. Unfortunately you don't know German. Recently there were interesting interviews with those people and the story from owners and restorators. Both cars were definitely a helpless cobbled pieces of shit. No discussion. Anyways, I'm still overjoyed to made the irretrievable experience to have participated at the presentation of the 1.3 in 1988 /vehicle.php?id=14604 ![]() ![]() |

I like them as well. But just because these Eastern Block cars were very popular in your country during communism and you have nice memories of them it does not mean they are as good as other cars you did not get to see in your country. |

Also let's don't forget about the made in the Eastern Block trucks and busses, where many, in case of the quality and realiability, were one of the best in the world. Though I have to say, that defence of the "Eastern Block's vehicles" value at this particular page, below picture of this particular thing listed as "1991", must be doomed to failure. ![]() -- Last edit: 2013-07-06 12:23:47 |

In my plate-collector-forum there is a new fellow, a much better specialist for Western cars in the DDR than the other one with the same interest. He has a nice archive of stories and pictures from several meetings and other car-related events, especially rallies. He is planning to write a book about that. |

Last year there was a small meeting of classic VWs in Baia Mare. Most of them were running in Romania before 1990. The the participating K 70, too. I cannot find pics in the WWW right now, sorry. |
