Actually, yes it is. The cylinder capacity of 7800 cc means it has a Fuel Injected straight six cylindre engine called D8 or DS8 (if supercharged). D8 had 167 hp and DS8 had 210 hp. When identifying a pre PGRT-series Scania there're some letters to take into consideration: L as first letter means "Lastbil" (HGV or truck), other alternative is B for "Buss" (Bus or coach). The second letter is B (=Bulldog) if the cabin is mounted above the engine, otherwise the B is left out. If it has twin front axles the next letter is F. If it has twin rear axles, but only the first pair of wheels is driven, the next letter is S (=Single?). If it has twin rear axles, and both pair of wheels are driven, the next letter is T for "Tandem". Hence, Lastbil + Bulldog but only two axles gives LB. The 8-litre engine gives LB 80, first introduced in the UK http://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/18th-july-1969/42/uks-first-scania-lb80 in 1969. However there was an update in 1974-76, which replaced the 80 with the 81. That is a 1978 Scania LB 81. -- Last edit: 2016-01-08 10:50:03 |

The first 'S' if present means Släp (Släp axel, Trailing axle). You could also find the 'S' at the end meaning Super. |
