according to this Sherman's used in North Africa where A1 now the A1 had a cast iron hall instead of welded one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lend-Lease_Sherman_tanks#North_Africa http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/sherman_types/m4a1/m4a1.html does this look liked cast iron ? -- Last edit: 2015-09-30 17:36:05 |

The 17th/21st Lancers The Second World War: North Africa 1942-1943 the Battle of Fondouk, on the 8th and 9th April 1943. A photograph on the website shows what I think is the earlier welded hull version of the Sherman, the same as shown above. http://www.qrlnymuseum.co.uk/1721l.htm |

then welded and hull and see the shape pf the rear this looks to be an original M4 version with 75 mm gun and turret http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/sherman_types/m4/m4.html so pick a producer This variant was manufactured by Baldwin LW, Pressed Steel Car, ALCO and Pullman Standard (6748 units produced). -- Last edit: 2015-09-30 20:22:37 |

I agree on M4A2, the rear armour shape is different on the M4 and M4A1, I will check the manufacturers presently |

A2 didn't have a pipe in the middle of rear or maybe that was added in the field ? http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/sherman_types/m4a2/M4A2_75_5.JPG http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/sherman_types/m4a2/m4a2.html |

That pipe is just for stowing the track tensioning tool and does feature on some M4A2s. http://afvdb.50megs.com/usa/pics/m4sherman.html#M4A2REAR The shape of the rear armour is a more reliable guide as it is related to the engine fitted, on the M4 and M4A1 the armour is notched up on the A2 and A3 it is lower than the side armour. |

well then it's an A2 with 75 mm gun so whcih producer to pick.... This variant was manufactured by Fisher Body, Baldwin LW, Federal Machine and Welder, ALCO and Pullman Standard (approx. 7053 units produced). I guess Fisher is best chocice -- Last edit: 2015-10-02 00:19:37 |

Impossible to tell for sure without seeing a lot more details or the US registration but Fisher is certainly preferable to unknown. ![]() |
