Not the faintest idea of what this is. French? Britsh? US? Filmed in front of Gare du Nord, Paris, early 1946. The only pic that can be said "made for the movie" for sure, the rest can be coming from stock shots. |

Looks to be a WW2 era Humber Snipe Utility - which was a woody wagon version of the Snipe. |

My first impression was British, nzcarnerd, indeed. |

Any takers for Alvis TA14 Shooting Brake?? Seems it might just squeeze into a 1946 film. |

Do you maintain your proposition, dsl? |

It's a suggestion alongside whatever other possibilities may exist. I like it, but would prefer extra support. |

The car's wheelbase compared to the length and the rear side door is closer to the Alvis, as is the curved front edge of the Alvis front door. Not 100% convinced, but the Alvis is a better fit IMHO. edit: Not all features seem to fit the the Alvis - perhaps the wings are too slimmed down in size? Something other than Alvis or Humber perhaps? -- Last edit: 2015-07-12 15:04:47 |

After some time comparing different pictures it must be the Humber Snipe Utility. Originally I was comparing it with this Humber Snipe Utility... /vehicle_762615-Humber-Snipe-Utility.html But this example is closer in appearance for its 'woody' bodywork. ![]() http://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/HUMBER%201939.html Also here Link to "maquettegarden.free.fr" and http://www.acemodel.com.ua/pages/models/72551/st_wagon_1.jpg which show a vertical vent in the bonnet sides that is just visible in the movie vehicle. ![]() -- Last edit: 2015-07-12 16:06:55 |

I have never seen an Alvis TA 14 with wheels like those. I have seen lots of Humber Utilities with wooden bodywork and oversize wheels and tyres like those. |

Bah, no default model-year suggested? |

Lots of stuff online from usually WW2 military sources, but confusing referencing between Snipe/Super Snipe and Utility/Heavy Utility. This model Super Snipe (civilian saloon) was Sept 38 onwards as Mk1 and then a "Mk2" in late 39 which was almost exclusively for military use - maybe 1500 made until 1940 when Humber stopped car production to produce military commercials. If I understand this forum correctly, "Humber Snipe 4X2 Mk2 was produced in 'Heavy Utility' from December '39. Humber FWD 4X2 Heavy Utility Produced from 1940 onwards." [but later comments suggest Snipe 4X2 Mk2 was Utility not Heavy Utility] and then "......there were a lot of military Humber Snipe Utility vehicles with the BEF in 1939". So 1939 seems reasonable default. And maybe a few hundred went to France in 1939-40 and stayed there - after Dunkirk several were captured by Germans and were used by them. So a sighting of a survivor in 1946 Paris is not particularly surprising, although it's likely to have had an interesting time in the previous few years. |

These were very popular officers cars throughout the war , still looks British military to me . Corporal Simpkins picking up Colonel Blimp from the station for a meeting at the French War Office , maybe ![]() -- Last edit: 2015-07-16 15:41:52 |
