we currently have 10 sherman tanks with maker unknown? surely one of our experts could put down a manufacturer for these? (or if there are too many different makers, we could agree to list them just as Sherman, instead of unknown?)

Many different makers for multiple variations of the "standard" Sherman. Listing as "Sherman" would be fine my me. Details in the photo may indicate the various models.

Sherman is not a maker name, for tanks for which year/maker cannot be guessed from the picture we used the name of the maker that made the biggest amount (i.e. most probable one)

They look like the 105mm howitzer Shermans, rather than normal gun tanks.

The three tanks appear to have the angular welded hull of the M4 series (rather than roudned cast hull of the M4A- series).
If these are 105mm howitzer-armed Shermans, the designation could be M4E5.
(This information is from: Gurps WWII. Published by Steve Jackson Games).

Production facilites for Sherman tanks included (Chrysler's) Detroid Arsenal, (GM's) Fisher Body Division, Ford Motor Company, Pacific Car and Foundry, Federal Machine and Welder Company, Lima Locomotive WOrks, and the Montreal Locomotive Works.

It is M4A3 with 105 mm howitzer, made by Chrysler only.
