Interesting, beat-up, neglected example of an early E23. Pre-1983 US 733i (sharper nose), with after-market wheels. Too bad they don't have much admiration for this vehicle in the movie. If you look close at this picture, you can see the exhaust running along the side of the car, just under the rocker panel. The oldest E23 BMW's had this weird exhaust routing, unlike the later 1980's models where they simply run straight down the middle. 1978 was the first year for the US E23 733i. This photo is labeled incorrectly - it is a `78-`82 US E23 733i. Note: no passenger mirror, and some weird after-market blacked-out chrome on doors. -- Last edit: 2009-11-30 16:50:50 (G-MANN) |

At the beginning of the film, Winona's character makes a graduation speech against the consumerist society "And they wonder we refuse to work an 80 hour week, just so we can afford to buy their BMWs.", then her father gives her his wife's old BMW as a graduation present. This causes a little argument between her divorced parents, "Didn't you listen to her speech? She don't want no Bee-em-dubya!" says her mother, but she's hardly in any position to turn a free car down, she diffuses the situation by "I'll take the BMW until I can afford to buy a regular car." Then her mother's dopey new husband suggests "Get a Ford." -- Last edit: 2010-01-28 18:36:38 |

I like your comment G-MANN. I do remember that vaguely. How Ironic. |
