Isn't it older than 1970 (as indicated) ? e.g. 1965-1968 Type 36 -- Last edit: 2007-03-20 13:48:56 |

Judging by the paint scheme and the numberplate, it's in fact a 1971 Elan Sprint ( still a type 36 since it's a FHC car ). The J-suffix numberplates run from August 1970 to July 1971 and the Elan Sprint was introduced in February 1971. The Sprint was the final version of the Elan, powered by the 126bhp Big-Valve engine. -- Last edit: 2007-07-18 01:26:58 |

Regular Sprints don't have a bump on the bonnet. Here, the bump could indicate that it is an S4... At the time, you could have (as an optional extra) the Sprint scheme on normal Elans, with "S4" written on the doors, instead of the usual "SPRINT". Or perhaps it is a normal S4 that's been converted into a Sprint in order to be sold more quickly. However, as it doesn't even have black-painted wheels, I really do think it's a normal S4, not a Sprint. -- Last edit: 2009-01-12 18:10:09 |

I think it's a genuine Sprint, one of the very first which were converted S4's done by the factory. Have a look at the Elan Sprint website - this car fits the bill. |
