Difficult to guess from a picture, it can have been used before the crash (but probably not after...)

I think it's the Mercury that is the star in this scene...

Thanks for listing these pictures, garco!
3 stars for the Nissan are alright since it is driven by a main character.
The movie has different plots that come together in this scene.

Oh my god, I used to live in Mexico City at the time and this crash was filmed a block away from my building. They did a first shot of the crash but the Nissan was going a little faster than planned (it was being pulled by a cable) and got slightly clipped in the rear quarter panel by the Grand Marquis instead of the T-boning they achieved on the second shot.
On a funny note, right after the crash the Nissan got hit so hard (believe me it was very very violent) that it kept rolling for about half a block and hit a taxi that was parked there, the taxi driver made quite a fuss!!!

It's a Nissan Lucino.

To me the Lucino that was sold in Mexico looks different.

This is a Japanese model that I do not think that was sold in Mexico and has different tail lights anyway:

This design only shows up badged as Sentra on Mexican websites:

1995-97 taillights

I think more like 1998-1999 nissan sentra GST (base model). it has the revised front (with foglamps), but no side trim (wich is exclusive to GSX/GSS version). that model was sold until 2000, but that year had clear taillights.
Edit:I just realized that the trim badge could be seen in the movie, so the car is a brand new 1999 Nissan Sentra GST model.

this is a totally diferent car to the one who was in the crash, since this has the old front (no foglights).
