Wikipedia says The first generation model was known as the Range Rover until almost the end of its run, when Land Rover introduced the name Range Rover Classic to distinguish it from its successors. IIRC the Classic name applied only to run-out 1st generation Range Rovers made between the introduction of the P38s and 1996. They were all 5-doors. |

I'm not sure that Classic should be listed as a chassis code at all to be honest. I agree with what you say Chris but think for those models it should be listed as part of the model name. |

We only have one bona fide Classic: /vehicle_133420-Land-Rover-Range-Rover-Classic-1995.html easily identified by its Classic badge on the rear beneath the Land-Rover oval. |
