It is very strange that a Montero is used in a film made in Romania and set in Afghanistan...

And assuming the car was sold new in continental Europe wouldn't it be a Pajero?

In Spain they are called Montero I think but that is not near. Maybe they brought it from the US. The Montero is paired with the Trooper in this scene as antagonist vehicles like the second-generation Pajero and first-generation Trooper in Body of Lies. I saw this awhile ago and it's good to see this added plus the thumbnails!

@93montero: in B.C. you can find an abandoned four-door 1st gen Montero, on the Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton, a bit North of the loop close to the US-border (but not to reach from there) ;)
And a Dodge Raider stands for sale besides the 19A in the South of Campell River.

And *cough* one brother belongs to our familiy since this afternoon
My brother-in-law has auctioned a Hyundai Galloper at the https://www.vebeg.de/web/en/start/index.htm The only thing, I know for now, is, that the first owner was an authority for environment and forestry or so.

Huh, a camouflaged -as a Mercedes  - Galloper is still for sale. From the BKA, the German FBI: Link to "www.vebeg.de"

That'd be the first time I heard America is closer to Romania than Spain...

US Monteros have full orange indicators (like their successors) so this is probably a Spanish Montero. Unlikely they imported a version meant for somewhere in South America or someplace.

I believe this might indeed be a US import. Spanish Montero have amber repeaters on the fenders which this model lacks. Yes, indeed the indicators are EU specs but I believe this a US import to Romania. Not the first time Romania has received US spec models.

Here are our two VIN & plated examples of Montero in Spain:
