The number plate is fake. The current Russian system does not provide for square two-line plates.

Is this 1974 or newer?

They just meant that this particular car was built in 1974.

There was some minor changes in upholstery and dashboard design...in early 60s also carburettor was replaced by newer one.

I would think about something like hundred. Just a suggestion, I don't know if there is any stats.

There was a DDR-movie, where a Chaika was the main "actor" ;) /vehicle_130562-GAZ-13-Chaika-1959.html

I've been noticed some changes.

- The oldest cars hadn't side mirrors.
Early 70s got it, on driver's side firstly and there were rectangular and flat.
A bit later Chaika got the chubby mirrors from GAZ-24 (since 1973).
Looks like GAZ-13 got mirrors from GAZ-14 around 1977-1978 finally.
- Late (since 1976?) cars usually had black steering wheels instead ivory.
- Some cars had the chrome seagull on grille, other hadn't (more likely these newer).

This knowledge isn't precise / confirmed enough to use it today.
Most Chaikas lost some factory elements through years and after respray or body rebuilt.
Today they're cocktails of any available elements.

And I think we shall call 1959-1964 Chaikas as GAZ M-13 and 1965+ as GAZ-13.
