This was an aircraft towing tug that once used for towing Boeing 747s at Heathrow Airport, it weighed 72 tons and was stripped down to about 28 tons, the bodywork was done by metalworkers in Slough, near Pinewood Studios where most of the movie was made. -- Last edit: 2017-09-29 19:10:43 (opal) |

4-wheel-drive (assuming permanently engaged) and 4-wheel steering ....... impressive. Wonder where it is now? |

Does anybody know where and or who has this vehicle? |

Hi, I’ve been digging for information on this vehicle and i thought i should share it here. The APC sat outside pinewood studios where they shot the movie. After filming was completed it was left to rot until 2000 where it was taken for display for a brief period. Following this it was taken and scrapped in late 2000. Now let me turn your frowns upside-down… I’m building one, from scratch, in full scale. I’ll keep you posted. |

hi I am a retired engineer and as an apprentice at the then Hunslet Engine Company I helped build the ATT77 though we called it The Air Tug. It contained remote starting aquipment for the 747. It could be driven from either end and both driver compartments able to elevate to facilitate reversing under the nose of aircraft. The raise mechanism was pneumatic as was the clutch and gear change. when we built it , it was said to be the most power full vehicle in the world on 4 wheels |

Enormous interior of APC leaving very little, if any, space for any kind of engine. |

I'm currently looking at Scratchbuilding one in 1:18 Scale, and could use some help in a couple of areas.... To start with....the Rear Lights.... I would have thought them to be Red, as would be the Norm for pretty much any Vehicle, but....looking at Screencaps, they look to be either White or Blue Can you confirm what Colour they are please? |
