Why "Classic" it's the Hatchback and not the Sedan. The Hatchback was not necessarily built in PL. GB, B and D are possible, too.

Because Warsaw police bought Classic's.

Why didn;t you wrote it here? /vehicle_153208-Opel-Astra-Classic-2004.html :p

By the way:
W Gliwicach od 3 października 2003 roku do 27 sierpnia 2009 roku produkowany był model Astra Classic II w czterech wersjach nadwoziowych: sedan, 5-drzwiowy hatchback, kombi oraz delivery van.

Astra II Classic was built in Gliwice as a sedan, hatchbach, wagon and van :p

 Hmmm, sorry, my wife is not at home right now. I thought really, that with "Classic" is meant the Sedan-version, not the basic ones.

This basic version was used not only by the Polish police, also by the German Bundeswehr. My wife's Astra G is from there, too. But in blue (the same dark-blue as above, a colour with had cost no extra charge), because it was used my the civil employees there. But the Bundeswehr had also olive-green ones.
This hyper-naked basic version (a real drama to mount a radio - no cables, speakers, antennas at all :/ ) is called "Großkundenausführung" - "major customer trim line".

But though the cars above and in the link are used by the Polish police, they weren't necessarily built in Poland. Opel had no systematics in that. As I wrote before, I've seen Polish trucks delivering Polish made Astra's and Zafira's at an Opel-dealer in Bochum, with view on the plant. After that they turned to the plant, have picked up Astra's and Zafira's there and drove back to Poland...

Only by the VIN-number you can identify, in which plant an Astra was built.

Did the Polish police use the Astra G before 2004?

It perhaps did, but I also do not remember them in Warsaw before "Classic" times.

Not in this case. Astra II (all its models) became Classic, when Astra III was introduced. It didn't exist before. It was also badged this way. It was old model still produced as cheaper alternative for the Astra III and was made since this time only in Gliwice.

Edit: I have to correct myself, I also wrote somewhere, that there were no Police Astras II in Warsaw before the "Classic era". It seems I was wrong - there were some, or police cars not always had complete badges (but I doubt this). The livery (with all white doors) was intorduced in ca 2001 (in this time they also changed the uniforms), so we cna use this as oldest year, like for now.
BTW for Astra II htb. and kombi we can set code [T98], coupe and cabrio was T98C, 4-door sedan T98/NB.
