It has a CHMSL so pretty sure it's 1986+. Also, I'm sure that the badge reads 560SEL?![]() ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2023-10-12 11:39:23 |

Pre-1986 bumpers and cladding, like I said. |

Or a 1986 with the pre-86 bumpers and cladding... ![]() Just a guess, that's all... |

CHMSLs were (un)commonly added to pre-1986 vehicles for some reason or another back in the 1980s. |

I just added some more screenshots showing the badge. To me, it looks like 560SEL. This was because some insurance companies offered discounts to customers who fitted them. At least, here in Australia they did. -- Last edit: 2023-10-12 11:39:51 |

The badge could be a later addition. These Benzes were status symbols and thus it was common to refurbish older cars with newer alloys, newer claddings, headlights and even aftermarket badges to make them more relevant. This would especially be relevant for grey-market cars, which often lacked badges. It's a bit like those fake handsets sold in the late 80s/early 90s to emulate a car phone. I find it hard to believe that whoever owned this car would fit the older claddings with the exposed sills rather than keep the covered ones. |
