Yes it's a Rover 800 in the rest of the World. Looks a bit Vitesse Fastback like. |

Research suggests the fastback came into the USA for MY1988 and came equipped only with the 2.7 litre engine. All our other Sterling 800Series are sedans as far as I can tell. |

Just like in America it's not well known that there was Corsica, 626 and Mazda6 hatchbacks. -- Last edit: 2015-04-28 06:45:17 |

Yes, I think you have to have been a car fan at the time to remember the Sterling fastback obviously inpired by the very famous, preceding model SD1 / 3500, as well as the Corsica and 626 hatchbacks. And neither Chevrolet nor Mazda were satisfied with those disappointing sales as both attempted it again....the Mazda6 jettalover mentions, and the Malibu Maxx! The medium to large hatchback is something the majority of American car shoppers just can't accept apparently associating with a downmarket image. |

I associate hatchbacks being less secure than cars with trunks. Not all hatchbacks have cargo covers leaving contents visible to possible theft. Don't have to worry about that with trunks. Similarly, not all station wagons have cargo covers. |
