I assumed this shot was filmed in the Philippines...We did not get a high top Montero here

Sorry, but I don't agree with you, as all other cars here are US-versions.

Well this is still not a US-spec Montero, I wonder how hard it is to get US-spec cars in the Philippines?

This is the only roof we got on the montero here: Link to "upload.wikimedia.org"

Hmm, I also cannot believe, that filmmakers, which set the movie in the USA, are very careful, only to use US-spec cars. If you look around in nearly all movies, we have here, which are set in other countries or continents, you see, that they never made it perfectly. We've found always goofs and mistakes.

Before I go to bed -oops, it's 2:30 in the night- two Youtubes for you: http://www.spiegel.de/auto/fahrkultur/0,1518,707880,00.html ;)

And for Neptune :hello: , too.

Sorry ingo, not on the site as much as I use to be. But thanks for the link (that’s a lot of SUVs in one place) I long for traversing sand dunes.
Sadly, North Carolina is in short supply of desert. Well, we have lots of sand on our vast beaches, but it’s illegal to run on them.

Though I could go at night with the headlamps off ...

Mostly what we have is mud, ruts and sticky clay.

That is one of the reasons that I love living in the Outer banks of NC.... plenty of beach to drive on (legally)

Really? You can drive on the beaches in the OBX? I’ll have to try that next time I venture up there.

I think there are some small areas where you can drive on the beaches down here in southeastern NC,
but it’s such a hassle with the "dune preservers" (we must take care of our beaches ... [:kiki] )

Yes in the Northern Banks (Corolla and Corova Beach) you can drive on the beach at all times, as a matter of fact in Corova Beach the Beach is actually part of Hwy 12 (as there is no other route to the houses located there) Driving on the beach is not allowed in Southern Shores , Duck or Kitty Hawk at any time. Driving on the beach is permitted from Oct 1 thru April 30 in both Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head (by Permit only in Nags Head which cost $25.00 per year) All of the beaches (save for Pea Island) on Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island are also 4x4 accessible (with seasonal temporary closures to protect wildlife nesting seasons).

I must admit, that I'm rather on the side of the dune preservers, than of the side of the off-road-freaks. :o Nature protection is more important than the fun of some motorized freaks.
Sure, having fun offroad, in mud and clay is great fun - but you should do that at placesm, which are prepared for that or where it's not harmful for the nature, for example if a gravel pit or so.

As I've heard it at our Namibia-trip in 2006 (partly offroad, with a very stabile Nissan Navarra Single Cab), the tyre tracks will not disappear for many years, except in loose sand. So even there we haven't left the official "pads" (Namibian slang for roads).

I'm similar sucked by motorbike- and more by quad-drivers. Always on the weekends their useless, noisy trips on the countryside. I'm living in a village very close to the Ruhr-area, to where the nearest curvy country-roads from some bigger towns are going. Fortunately our house is in a traffic-calmed dead-end-street and enough far away, that we don't hear the noise - and not have to scratch off the rests of incapable bikers from our fence or the trees beside the streets.
