John Lennon's car...sweet and classy ride! I wonder if this is the one he had painted in psychedelic colors- http://massiveideas.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/08062001_blog_uncovering_org_beatles.jpg |

It is a 1965 Phantom V according to what I found. |

Same car as /images/317/774.jpg. Interesting that in both entries, registration appears actually to be EUC 1000 and that there's no tax disc visible. Also a nice TV aerial. His psychedelic car was FJB 111C. -- Last edit: 2010-07-22 12:04:31 |

Where is the psychodelic painted Rolls nowadays? I've seen it in 1988 in a classic car museum in Vancouver, which was closed and dissolved shortly later. |

Further digging around suggests that Lennon had 2 Phantoms Vs, a black one EJB 111C which became the psychedelic car (see /images/320/465.jpg) and this white one which remained white throughout. It was also used in the 1970 film Performance (not yet in IMCDb) when pretend acid was poured over it (http://tittenhurstlennon.blogspot.com/2009/07/balcony.html) but it was water really. Also reported as used in the "Ballad of John & Yoko" video. The actual registration may have been EUC 100C instead of EUC 1000 but all photos seem to show the latter (despite its incorrect format). Above website also has a frontal picture with the patches below the headlights shown more clearly (/images/317/774.jpg.) - could be ice detectors?? |

Wing Commander Patrick Barthropp seems an interesting character ( Link to "en.wikipedia.org" ) - WW2 air hero who 'in 1957 was happy to take his “golden bowler” [from the RAF] and return to civvy street, where for a number of years, he ran a highly successful luxury car hire business.' and 'He used the handsome gratuity and part of an inheritance to buy a Bentley and a Rolls-Royce Phantom VI. Dressed in an expensive chauffeur's outfit he started to drive the well-heeled around Britain. Over the next few years his luxury car-hire business became very successful and he soon owned a fleet of Rolls-Royces. One of his cars featured in the James Bond film Casino Royale.' |
