I've done a bit more research, and this appears to be a 4-4, made between 1936 and 1955 (!) The +4 didn't appear until 1950, after this film came out. The small round thing on the bonnet (/hood) is a holder for a British tax disc.

Sorry, Zodiak, let's have it right: 4-4, not 4/4. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Motor_Company .
Don't blame me, blame the Morgan Motor Company :D

That would mean we had to change all Morgan 4/4 to 4-4: /vehicles_make-Morgan_model-4%252F4.html , right?

No, only the pre-1955 ones ;) ; in fact the shorter ones with flat radiators. The 4/4 replaced the 4-4 in '55 according to Wikipedia (although it ignores the fact in the model list further down the page) .

This is a 4-4 Drop Head Coupe. Note the square top of the windscreen and High doors. There are only 7 of them on the Morgan Registry in the UK dated between 1938 and 1950.

As this is a 3* car, is there a shot showing the number plate in case it's dateable or could identify the car against the Registry?

The issue of 4-4 vs. 4/4 is pretty complex. The original designation in 1936 was \"4-4\", meaning \"4 wheels, 4 cylinders\". Production was interrupted from 1939 to 1946 by World War II. When post-war production resumed in 1946, Morgan advertisements used the name \"4/4\" for the car which was barely changed from 1939. So one school of thought would be to use \"4-4\" for 1936-39 models and \"4/4\" for 1946 and later models. In practice, the Morgan community refers to all 1936-50 four-wheelers as \"4/4 Series 1\".

The Morgan in the picture is a 4/4 Series 1 Drophead Coupe. The Drophead Coupes were first sold in 1938, so it couldn\'t be a 1936 model. Because it is lacking a mascot on the radiator cap, it would appear to be a postwar 4/4, but that is a simple feature to modify.

Somehow my previous post was marred by a number of backslash symbols "\". Carefully note that they are different from "/".

That happens when you try to post a comment, but you are required to re-enter your username and password. The backslashes appear next to every quotation mark and apostrophe.
