According to http://jimsuva.typepad.com/blog/ , the production used Formulas after the first season, but modified them to look like the original Esprit. On the 1975 Firebird page, I posted a link to: http://jimsuva.typepad.com/blog/ In it, the writer mentions that the show used Formulas after the first season. On the 1975 Firebird page, I posted some thumbnails. In one of the thumbnails, you can see the "Formula" badge by the front fender. They don't have the Esprit badges. On the Formulas used in the show, the vented hood is replaced and the spoiler is removed. -- Last edit: 2010-09-05 20:48:43 |

it's not a Formula by appearence, by appearence it's a Base model F bird or a Esprit F bird. |

Also "IF" they did do this, it would have been a hole crap load of work when a Firebird Base model cost less than a Esprit, Formula, or trans am and had the exact same appearence as a Esprit, including engine options. |

According to the blog, they used Formulas because they had a better suspension and could handle the stunt driving better. |

This 1976 Firebird is Rockford's car during the third season of the show. In this image, you can see the turn signals have been moved below their previous location. It is near the 1974 location, but not directly under the headlights: ![]() -- Last edit: 2010-08-02 00:26:59 |

I just wanted to say I really like this site. My name is Jim Suva and I see you guys have found my blog about the Rockford Firebirds. All the information on my site has been researched through either people that work on The Rockford Files or currently own original cars from the series. Thanks for visiting my blog. Jim |

Some of the thumbnails appear to be stock footage of the 75 Firebird from season 2 (specifically the second one under 3.15 and the third one under 3.20) |

Should be "Firebird Formula as Esprit" per @JimSuva's blog and research. -- Last edit: 2023-10-27 05:31:53 |
