This one is 1974/75 due to bulge just above the rear fender.

Also, Mexican assembled for USA market.

None was orange. Most were blue and white for the USA. In Mexico about half were blue and white and the rest were pink and white. At list one is known to be yellow and white.
The one in the picture in my opinion is not an Acapulco since the metal cage for the top should not be flat all the way. The front poles are too long and the rear is missing some bars. The car does not have the side steps of an Acapulco.
The license plates look asian. Possibly from Indonesia.

Safari wrote The license plates look asian. Possibly from Indonesia.

Not Indonesian. It looks French, so probably a scene, filmed in a French Overseas Depeartement.

A plenty of German made 181's were delivered in orange ("leuchtorange", code L20B). Many of the -rather rare- civil versions, but also the German Civil Protection troops had chosen this colour http://www.abczug-bawinkel.de/images/vw181.jpg They also had the civil versions, to identify by the chromated parts.

@Safari: should have said before: welcome here :) Nice to have an expert for it here.
Sorry, but if you would have been here earlier, I would have offered it to you before http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310329282210 ;)

The IMDB says the film was shot in Hawaii: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120828/locations

According to a review, this is a "tropical island resort in the South Pacific", so perhaps it's meant to be French Polynesia. There just happens to be a Peugeot 505 as well - /vehicle_207388-Peugeot-505.html

But perhaps someone who's actually seen the film can comment...

Thanks Ingo. When I said "none was orange" I was refering only to Acapulcos since that was the subject. I own an orange 182 (RHW) made in 1976 sent to be displayed to Senegal and returned to Volkswagen in Mexico after they refused to place an order. I t is not an Acapulco.

 Why it's a RHD-car? Senegal, a former French Colony, has right traffic.

Maybe whoever told Safari about the car just got it wrong.
