It obviously must be a later episode of The Avengers! |
◊ 2006-01-07 22:05 |
It's the serie's of 1968, the car of the character (to the Avengers fans) Tara King. |
◊ 2006-01-12 16:44 |
It's driven a lot, so should'nt it be 3 stars? |
◊ 2006-01-12 17:23 |
If you say it, yes. Until now it had an "unknown role" since nobody specified it. -- Last edit: 2006-01-12 17:31:55 |

actually, it's not an Europa S1, but one of the first 1969 S2's |
◊ 2006-02-11 19:55 |
What's its type then ? still 46 ? Or 54 or 65 ? |
◊ 2006-03-20 20:32 |
Now I think it should be 4 star's because it's used by a maincharacter in about 6/7 eps. |

This isn't a '69, it's more likely a '67 built or '68 registered and like the Elan +2, it was a factory supplied demonstrator. The first Europas were only available for export (to France, in particular and this one is a very rare UK market car. This is quite clearly a Series 1, as it doesn't have the front indicators that the later (series 2) cars have and its F plate dates it as registered between and hence built before August 67 - July 68, so a Series 1 it most definitely is. -- Last edit: 2017-08-19 09:23:48 |

The S2 was produced from April 1968. This one has the features of one of the first S2s and so its F-suffix reg. makes sense. |

and Tara's car had electric windows (only available on S2s. you had to dismantle them on S1s, I think they were plastic panels.) so... an early S2 between February and July 68 ?... |

This is, at least in my opinion, the best-looking Lotus ever to hit the road. ![]() |

Really? I like the Esprit. |

You do? Well I think the Espirit is cool, but not half as satisfactory as the Europa. |
◊ 2010-06-04 12:07 |
Esprit is also my favourite Lotus |

Might be an S1B after all (the very last S1's had S2 rear lights apparently), but the windows still bug me, they look electric (like on an S2) |
◊ 2012-05-07 19:57 |
PPW xxxF series issued Norfolk April-May 68. S2 Europa introduced May 68 for export only until UK launch July 69. My first reaction was S1 for front lights, but I don't know what lights were used on export-only S2 production until July 69. So clearly Lotus-supplied for date, plate and RHD, and likely to be an S2 launch/promotional car in a unique spec 14 months before normal UK spec was confirmed. |

It's a type 46, an S1a or b I can never remember which. |
◊ 2018-02-28 12:03 |
This is definitely a type 54, clearly recognisalbe by the black rim under the cabin side, a feature that a type 46 never had. An interesting feature is the application of a litte fixing screw in the alu triangular window surrounding top piece close to Tara´s attactive face. This screw did not make it to the the production line, so this should be a pre-series car. Note that the door is painted (Carnival Red) inwardly, a detail that only type 54 cars had, wereas the lower part with the electric drives for the side screens had to be hidden behind a big black vinyl cover. 46 doors were black. |

Found info which confirms this as S2 due to quarterlights - S1 didn't have them. Early S2 did not have bonnet lights until July 69 when start of UK sales brought a slight revamp. Unclear if there was RHD production before July 69, so this one is very unusual. |
