It'd have to be a regular Wagoneer, the Grand Wagoneer didn't come out until '84 (when the smaller, Cherokee-based Wagoneer came out). |

They didn't get the square headlights & black grilles until 1979, so they're not 1976 Wagoneers at all. The question is, how did this scene get in a movie made in 1977? -- Last edit: 2006-05-26 15:12:50 |

It's the Kaiser model from the early sixties. |

The best match is a 1978 model AMC Jeep Wagoneer Limited. I don't know when in the year 1977 the next year's model became available, but this looks a lot like a promotion for the new model. |

So, I think we just found a little bigger movie mistake here, huh?! I'd say it's after all at the earliest a 1979 Jeep SJ Wagoneer...... ![]() |

Of course it is. I just can't figure out how they could come up with them in 1977. |

When I search I find a lot 1977 Wagoneers... Link to "images.google.nl" |

No wonder, they are around since the early 1960s! ![]() It is the shape of the radiator grille that is the problem. This shape first turns up on the 1978 model AMC Jeep Wagoneer Limited. |

Doesn't this scene take place in the Sahara Desert or somehere in the middle east? Don't they have different models over there? |

They are 1978 AMC Jeep Wagoneers. They must have been brand new when the movie was filmed. |

According to IMDb, the movie was shot back in the summer of 1976! Must've just rolled off the assembly line brand spanking new! |

They may have been prototype models when they very first designed that grille. Just a thought. |

I just read Roger Ebert's review from 1980 of the Special Edition of CE3K. Spielberg shot some new footage for this "director's cut" re-release, so maybe this was shot after the '77 release. Might explain the post-'77 models, if that's what they are. |

On the 2007 BluRay release it marks this scene as a 1980 filmed one, with the timeline chart of changes between versions. so they can be 1980 models due to the fact that it was filmed in 1980 |
