This is an OSCA MT4 1953, four cyl. 1350cc, body by Frua, chassis 1127. In this event (Pebble Beach), it was driven by Chick Leson, finished first. Car is now in France, driven in historical events.

This is not 1127 but 1121. It was owned by Chick Lesson and was filmed at the Pebble beach road races in 54. The body was not Frua but the first car built with the headlights in the fenders and full envelope body. Built in house at OSCA. The car is not in France but in Italy getting restored. This car had an extensive race history and won its first 2 races in Elkhart lake and Watkins Glen with Bill Spears as the driver.

The history of these cars is difficult to figure out exactly, but it seems 1127 was owned by Leson, at least in 1955: see picture and caption at http://documents.mx/documents/americas-first-oscas.html. The car on the picture is clearly 1127, not 1121, with Leson's usual race number 117. Possibly, Leson owned 1121 in 1954 and 1127 in 1955, but this is rather unlikely. 1121 did win two races in 1952, though. 1121 is indeed an OSCA body and is in Italy for reconstruction, but 1127 is an OSCA design buit by Frua, very different from 1121 design and is in France.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. the cars in the pictures are 1121. History has been written online stating that 1127 raced up and down the west coast and although it is true it did it has been confused with 1121's history.

1121 raced at Pebble Beach and won with Chick as owner. Chick was a dealer and did own 1127 later in 55. I have a picture of 1121 with sam Weiss in it (bought it from Chick) and chick in his new OSCA 1127.

OK, switched to 1121 because of the depth of information in Dman550's comment. But it's way above my pay grade to make any other informed judgement, so carprint or anyone else with OSCA expertise has a right to reply.

Sorry, but you are just attributing to 1121 most of the racing history of 1127 with all the correct details...but it is 1127 (except the 1955 and 1956 history, which probably belongs to another car, but most likely, not 1121). Just look at the official record in http://www.racingsportscars.com/chassis/results/1127%20%5bOsca%5d.html and other independent sources, including books on racing in the US in the '50s (Runways and Racers by Terry O'Neil, and Northeasr American Sports Car Races 1950-1959, and Nassau racing records). The ownership history of 1127 with all the names you attribute to 1121, is confirmed in the authoritative book on OSCA of Orsini and Zagari, who give no ownership history for 1121, except that it was initially purchased by Bill David, and nothing more. On the other hand, they confirm that is was 1127 which raced at Pebble Beach 1953, Brooklyn, Reno, Sowega, Golden Gate, 1953, Golden Gate, Santa Clara, Scafair 1954, March, Stockton, Pebble Beach, Sacramento, Nassau, Santa Rosa, Palm Spring 1955 . There is surprisingly little record of 1121 racing in the documentation, except Elkhart Lake and Watkins Glen (Spear) 1952 and no independent reference to 1121 racing in 1953-54, but quite a body of references on 1127. Records documenting 1121 racing History has to be confirmed by independent sources, not solely by car owners. Or should we conclude that all independent sources are wrong? Or perhaps you have independent supporting evidence for your claims (except Barden and Albedi?). I have a letter from Albedi indicating he bought his car from Barden, and the car had TWO doors (yours has only one), so it cannot be 1121, but it is probably not 1127 either. He also stated that Barden did NOT purchase the car from Sam Weiss.

The pendulum swings back to this being 1127?? Or is it safer to remove the chassis number reference until this is resolved?? (Which would be a pity given that both contrasting claims give in-depth arguments, but imcdb should not carry exact statements which might become regarded as precise historical fact unless there is expert consensus).

I rely on third parties' independent references several decades old, as it is the rule in historical studies, whereas Dman550 uses allegations with no independent confirmation. None of us was an eye witness to what happened in 1953-58. So, rather remove chassis reference until independent parties confirm once again.

I would like to add some minor details. This O.S.C.A. was definitely purchased from Sam Weiss by my brother, Jerry Barden. The car had only one door on the right-hand side of the vehicle. It also had scoops on the rear fenders for added cooling to the rear brakes. Another distinction was that the two front louvers on the hood/bonnet were punched from the bottom up, to enable more cooling air for the engine, there were also two holes on the right side of the car, just in front of the rear wheel well opening. These were for the insertion of electrical inlets from a larger battery which would be used when starting the vehicle. Jerry raced the car in 1956 & 1957. He spun the car at the Sacramento Road Races, striking a bale of hay with the rear of the vehicle. When the car was repaired it was repainted red. After the repaint, Jerry only competed once at Stockton, California. The car was subsequently traded for a Porsche Speedster to a Porsche dealer in Oakland. The next owner was Larry Albedi.

Here is an image of the car at the Santa Rosa Road Races in 1956. There is no door on the left-hand side of the car.

I have no personal knowledge as to what the chassis number was. It wasn't important back then.
