Daimler 4 1/2 Litre 1936 to 1940 Straight Eight 4624cc not 4500. The registration number may be the one on the car now, but it is certainly not original. -- Last edit: 2008-09-18 18:38:56 |

CNX 667 Another 1938 4 1/2 litre straight eight with a dubious claim to movie prominence was the one used in 'Lady L' starring Sophia Loren David Niven and Paul Newman in 1965 and filmed at Castle Howard ,N.Yorks . Reg No CNX 667 .Buff log book indicates ownership by the film company Metro Goldwyn Mayer The car was mothballed after the film and finally came to light in a very parlous state in a fabrication company behind the Railway Museum in York in the late nineties. The coachwork being beyond repair the car underwent a 7 year rebuild using all original components after the chassis had been shortened from 134 inches to 118 inches. I have sat in this one- very nice cream leather interior- all be it a bit too 'perfect' for my taste. It was for sale at the time. Another I have photographed is beautiful, but unfortunately painted in wedding- duty white--and fitted with a modern Jaguar engine! |
