![]() Registration doesn't appear on the DVLA database, but it is an F-reg (1967-68). -- Last edit: 2010-01-27 03:30:19 |

Rear badging size is for a Mini Minor I believe (Austin Seven or Mini was italic style) rear opening side windows chromed indicate 'Super?' trim level. -- Last edit: 2008-08-31 20:55:15 |

Right, what shall I enter as the manufacturer? |

With its F-suffix reg. ( if it belongs to this car ) it's one of the last MkI cars. The Mini Minor was a Morris and this would be a De Luxe trim car. |

Sunbar did say it was a DeLuxe trim at first then he edited his comment to say Super. |

As far as I know, the Deluxe designation was firstly used between 1959 and 1961, when it was replaced by the Super that lasted only until October 1962. Between this date and late 1964, the "upmarket" version was called Super Deluxe and then the designation was changed again to Deluxe. |

Yes, showing my confused state, ![]() edit: Definitely a Deluxe (introduced from August 1959 onwards alongside the basic versions). The Mini 'Super' versions sold alongside the basic and Deluxe versions from September 1961, these were essentially a 'Mini Cooper' level of trim and contrasting roof colour but without the engine changes. The Super sold poorly and was dropped I believe within a few years. -- Last edit: 2008-09-01 11:08:12 |

Why would an original Mini be used as a police car? The Mini isn't exactly a beast under the hood so it wouldn't be good for pursuing a criminal fleeing in another car, it's only got two doors so you couldn't stuff a criminal inside unless the front passenger seat had a barrier between it and the driver's seat and literally any other car (minus other microcars) could bash it out of the way so it wouldn't be very good for roadblocks either. It wouldn't surprise me if a normal British civilian could outpace a police Mini. |

I'm not totally convinced this one's a real police car, but there were lots of 60s and 70s police Minis in all versions from basic 848cc to zoomy Cooper S. Cheap and nippy so could catch things, and as this film is supposed to be set on a small Scottish island, any naughty baddies couldn't get very far, so a plodding plod Mini was probably perfectly adequate most of the time. There'd probably be a Land Rover as well for rough tracks. |

Lots of British Police cars were two door. Any one in back could not get out with two standard large Police persons in front. Any miscreants likely to kick off -they called for a van. Hence vans with secure cell in back so popular for patrol vehicles now as such a violent society. -- Last edit: 2021-04-30 21:39:11 |
