I think it's a Bedford SB with a Mulliner body: https://www.flickr.com/photos/penrose_g/43684991894/ |

Bedford SB was my first guess but it looks like the window arrangement is as the Duple body here ![]() Duple - Willowbrook service bus https://www.flickr.com/photos/26237061@N07/5947322855 -- Last edit: 2021-12-18 11:30:23 |

I'm holding out for a Mulliner I'm afraid - I don't think the window arrangement is right for Duple (Midland) or Willowbrook (though that had been my first thought as well). The bottom of the foremost window curves downwards, unlike the window on black one in that picture. Also the window openings all match those on the derelict one in the link I posted above, including the large droplights, which to me suggest a MoD spec vehicle rather than a UK service bus. Finally, the thickening of the tops of the front pillars as they join the front dome corresponds with the Mulliner in the link. |

Yes, thank you Lowlander I'm convinced. Your link to the eBay bus 'SXT 169' looks the same and Mulliner body is also referenced here for the same bus... https://www.flickr.com/photos/10631124@N07/43476990045/ |

We have SXT 169 here and here. We now need to decide if SB or SBO, so will contestants please arm their weapons in readiness. |

Nothing on BLOTW. First link describes it as SBO, first supplied to MoD in 1957. They liked the Bedford 8 litre diesel, but I think 1957 might have been a bit early for the dieselisation policy, they were still wedded to multifuel engines for A vehicles, maybe not for the B fleet. |

I see a connection with the Bedford OB Duple probably being supplied by Rollingpast Action Vehicles. Too much of a coincidence SXT 169 the Bedford SBO Mulliner was in preservation with Brian McNeil Todmordon the owner of Rollingpast Action Vehicles. -- Last edit: 2021-12-18 22:11:26 |

Last comment by the owner, in the following link, confirms its use in The Darling Buds of May. Link to "www.old-bus-photos.co.uk" |

SBO from the extensive 'Old Bus Photos' comments here "SXT 169 is a Bedford SBO Mulliner B31F new to Ministry of Defence 3/57" For a MoD bus, SXT 169 appears to have a few unusual design features and the oil (diesel) engine, original or replacement, was one of them. Which department of government and its original use looks to be unknown and it was being sold for parts and scrapped in 2018 I think. |
