TMC is basically the successor of GMC. TMC means Transportation Manufacturing Corporation. They designed the RTS in 1977, with the design being sold under the GMC nameplate. When GMC stopped making buses, TMC took over. -- Last edit: 2006-11-06 01:43:42 |

Correction to Snookie's post - GMC designed the RTS (beginning in 1967, although the first production models didn't roll out until 1977). TMC has nothing to do with GMC. TMC was founded in 1974 by Greyhound to manufacture its MCI coaches in the U.S. Greyhound purchased GM's bus manufacturing division in 1987; with the purchase, the GM Bus & Truck plant in Pontiac closed, RTS production moved to the TMC plant in New Mexico; production of MCI coaches in New Mexico under the TMC nameplate ceased; and production of GMDD "New Look" buses in Canada ceased; and production of the GMDD "Classic" in St-Eustache, Quebec continued under the MCI brand. |
