Was the name 1302 used in America? |

It was sold in the US just as VW Convertible. This equivalent to the 1302 was the "Super Beetle" and, like all Typ 1s from the 1970 model year on, was powered by a 1600cc engine. It was introduced for the 1971 model year ( the 4 groups of 7 vents on the engine lid were introduced the year before ). |

Was the 1302 also a "Super Beetle" for the US-market? I thought, only the 1303 (rounded frontscreen, round back lamps) had that export-name. |

The start of the designation "Super Beetle" was the 1971 model year ( the equivalent to the 1302 ). Both "Beetle" and "Super Beetle" designations were used until 1975. After 1975, the Convertible continued to use the 1303 windscreen but it was also sold as "Beetle" like the Sedan. |
