The scene is unrealistic. Allied soldiers didn't make patrol-drives across the German/German border. They even weren't allowed to come close to the border. I remember the traffic signs (naturally on the West German side), something like this: "Border in less than 1000 meters. Members of the Allied forces have to stop here".
