Stroker was the only Ford driver in the movie to have an '83 Bird. The others had the 1981-82 body style. |

And that's why it's more 'stock' looking than the other cars. My guess is they bought some Thunderbirds and modified them to look like stock cars. |

Actually, Ford donated two of the prototype street Thunderbirds for the movie to coincide with the release of the car. They were converted into "race cars" by White Crown Engineering. So, in essence, they were true "stock" cars. Also, they were originally delivered with the EFI installed on the engines and Ford sent one of their engineers down to replace the EFI with carburetors because they were secret at that time.
