Anyone for the Mini behind it? |

Yes to TR4/5 - maybe TR4A from hint of wing chrome but could be trick of light and other bodging makes this one dodgy. Very interesting - it looks incredibly like http://www.mcqueenonline.com/mcqueensmachinesminicooper.htm for unusual colour scheme and sunroof. What are the chances? Nice Vanguards model - Link to "www.corgi.co.uk" . |

I'd go with the 1959 Ford Skyliner. |

If that Mini can be positively identified as McQueen's, I'd definitely say it's worth listing. |

Not just because of its general rarity in America? |

McQueen's Mini had his own unique colour scheme of coffee and cream - neither shade being offered by BMC. It also had a cream sunroof and the cream band on windscreen pillar and the scuttle below the windscreen. This Mini has an identical livery, so is either THE Mini or a deliberately painted replica. No trace found of anyone making replicas - the original seems to be entirely a one-off. Would be interesting to know the filming date - imdb says broadcast 9 December 1972 - and whether it matches duration of McQueen ownership. Also did he have any connection with the series, either as a guest appearance, producer, advisor, funder or whatever? And any info on what this car park is - a studio lot or a staff car park? Perhaps he just parked here while doing something else film-related? Any more views? |

Agree with ingo's suggestion that the page is renamed to the Mini as [a] I doubt if we can really pin the Triumph down to anything more precise and [b] although claiming this is the Mcqueen Mini is not (yet?) confirmable, it keeps the question alive for any further contribution. AFAIK Cooper S was the only mid-late 60s Mini sold in US, so "1967 Austin Mini Cooper S [ADO50]" seems the most useful description, even if the detail is unproven. |

Has also been modelled by Schuco - a nicer model than the pictures suggest, and better than the Vanguards model. |

Just seen a solitary book reference that McQueen's Mini was a Radford, although this pic shows normal slider windows which was unusual on a Radford; caption says " .. originally British Racing Green, but McQueen liked to customise his cars ... The Mini was repainted, the wheels chromed and reversed, a sunroof added, and the interior retrimmed in brown vinyl with a wood dash.". Maybe - if the reference is correct - Radford did the revamp rather than a from-new conversion?? Also discovered that James Garner had a Radford Morris Cooper S, silver over dark blue, UYL 807 California plates, broken up in the early 1980s after an accident. Photo shows he kept the sliding windows as well. |

dsl, I immediately thought THE SAME THING that the Mini is Steve McQueen's when I stumbled on this page while looking at cars from this show. The color combination is extremely unique. McQueen had a liking for the color brown, and had a Ferrari in such a hue. I suspect it is 1 of 1!!! I am not surprised there is a Vanguards model, although I was looking at various customs of the original Mini and star-owned vehicles, and the McQueen and Garner cars were prominent in the photo search results. Makes sense that they owned Minis because they were hardcore car guys, and both acquired their cars while in England filming "The Great Escape". |

I was browsing at the comment section in this listing and thought of researching more information about this specimen here. Here is what I have found so far: Link to "en.wikipedia.org" with the reference of Link to "web.archive.org" |

The Cooper still would've been under McQueen ownership at the time of this episode. It aired in Dec of 72 and Link to "web.archive.org" states that "Steve McQueen last owned the car in the 1970s" |
