I've checked SAAB 99 and 900 - The Complete Story by Lance Cole and he writes: That's all I can find. -- Last edit: 2011-05-09 17:27:46 |

Saab Malines/Mechelen: 1] Link to "saabworld.net" 2] http://www.saabforum.nl/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=87568 (but it's in foreign so I have no clue what it says - it could be tips for cooking chocolate cake with some Saab pictures and I'd never know. We have an English expression for something totally incomprehensible as being written in "double Dutch".) -- Last edit: 2011-05-09 17:56:28 |

![]() Interestingly, someone has found the exact production numbers of Mechelen/Malines: IMA, Mechelen 1959-1960: 608 stuks 276 S93 + 332 S96 Brondeel Antwerpen 1967-1971: 2016 stuks S96 Saab-IMA, Mechelen 1973-1978: 24821 stuks S99 (stuks = pcs) IMA also built Mercedes-Benz /vehicle_142802-Mercedes-Benz-200-Universal-W110-1966.html and the Saab archive is now at Mercedes. Thanks dsl! |

The only way we can tell if this is Belgium assembly if we can see this VIN ![]() ![]() My parent car (the 1977 model) was from Trollhättan Assembly line #2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trollh%C3%A4ttan_Assembly |

I thought all the US-bound Saabs were manufactured in Sweden. |

This Canadian "barn find" is where I got the picture from: Link to "www.saabhistory.com" Apparently the way to tell them apart is the amount of rust... "wow, a belgian 99 that hasnt turned into a big giant pile of rust? didnt know they existed anymore! lol" "hopefully it will get here from Austrailia before the body rusts away ( it is from Belgium)" "My friend has a Belgian-built 99, and they say they are more prone to rust than the Swedish built ones, I believe due to inferior zinc-coating. There's your fun fact for the day." and many great references like that... You were lucky, rjluna. ![]() |
