The IMDB says the series was filmed in the UK, France and Malta. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0085077/locations |

If it's not French, it's British. The railway in Malta closed in 1931. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transportation_in_Malta |

Probably stock footage from Central/Eastern Europe: that pilot loco never ran on British track. The van in the second thumbnail could be British, though ![]() |

The Nene Valley Railway has quite a lot of continental rolling stock, and its website says that Reilly: Ace of Spies was filmed there. http://www.nvr.org.uk/other/filming.php |

Most episodes only list the filming location as England. However a few (two or three) do also mention France and Malta. Its quite likely the Nene Valley Railway was the location for the first train pictures but the following ones from episode one were at a different location. This mountainous scene is not possible for the Nene Valley Railway near Peterborough in flat East Anglia. Also it was not stock footage as the actors were clearly at the same location. Episode 1.01 (Location is supposed to represent Baku Russia, modern Azerbaijan) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2008-07-01 12:31:27 |

Those landscapes don't look as if they could be anywhere in England, so I think they must be in (southern?) France. |
