This really was a case of "desperately needed the money"; Stallone had been kicked out of his apartment and was essentially homeless, living and sleeping in a bus station and as he says, "It was either do that movie or rob someone because I was at the end—at the very end—of my rope." He worked two days and got $200 for his work, a lot of money in 1970.

After Rocky came out and Stallone made bank on it, the filmmakers approached him with an offer of $10'000 for the rights to this film, which Stallone said "I wouldn't buy it for two bucks!"
