tore-40 ![]() | 1972+ engine vents, yet the pre-1972 rear window. (Cant see if the flow-throughs are all black.) Made in ZA? At least not 1303 as listed, don't think ZA made 1302. |

Moscvich433 ![]() | Not 'Made in Zimbabawe'? | 2016-04-12 18:16
antp ![]() | Hippo sounds more like a nickname, I'd guess MK 'Hippo' is better than just Hippo. | 2016-04-11 20:13
dsl ![]() | ^ Looks as if we should combine MK 'Hippo' and plain Hippo into one batch, but comments on which name to use?? Or maybe hybrid as Hippo [MK] if MK reference is important?? |
2016-04-10 18:11 | ||
JB ![]() | Year: 1970+. Model isn't "MK 'Hippo'" but "Hippo". Extra info: Personel Carrier. Origin: South Africa. /vehicle_564311-Bedford-Hippo-1970.html /vehicle_564350-Bedford-Hippo-1970.html |

ElSaxo ![]() | That's OK, but I still believe that's more likely that an Alfasud built in Transvaal had made its way through the South African-Rhodesian border before 1980, rather an Italian built model imported from elsewhere, like Italy or United Kingdom. | 2014-02-16 23:53
Gag Halfrunt ![]() | Bear in mind that the film was shot in Zimbabwe, not South Africa, so the cars that could be "built in ZA" are not necessarily so. | 2014-02-16 23:45
ElSaxo ![]() | Can you upload here the images of such cars, especially the Alfasud, as we have only one of those assembled in South Africa? ![]() |
2014-02-16 23:34 | ||

dsl ![]() | 1968-71 for pillar vents. I think this is a flipped photo - grille has script badge for 2800 which should be on the other side - RHD first appeared in UK Aug 69. So 69/70 2800. | 2012-03-02 16:39
dsl ![]() | Deluxe. | 2011-10-16 23:44
ingo ![]() | ...the essential reason of the existence of IMCDb and the engagement of its members ![]() |

2011-08-16 22:35 | ||
ingo ![]() | ![]() |
2011-08-16 22:30 | ||
130rapid ![]() | Does it look better now?![]() It's indeed South African designed (Glas) BMW 1804/2004. First one! ![]() |
2011-08-16 22:26 | ||
ingo ![]() | Oh, you mean that ZA-spec model. Rather not an E3, it looks indeed more like a 1804/2004, as the back is very Glas-ish, but the front lower as at the E3. |
2011-08-16 22:16 | ||
dsl ![]() | See http://autocade.net/index.php/BMW_1800_SA,_2000_SA . While I think this is probably [E3], it's worth looking at the local 1804/2004 as well eg Link to "www.oldtimerwebseiten.com" , http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_2004 . -- Last edit: 2011-08-16 22:09:28 |
2011-08-16 22:00 | ||
ingo ![]() | Err, dsl, you are mixing up two different models, the "Neue Klasse"-BMW with the Glas 1700 TS The BMW had nothing do do with the Glas. It's even the ancestor of the still current BMW-design as it wss the first model with the "Hofmeister-Linie". The Glas was rebadged as BMW in its last weeks of life, that's all. |
2011-08-16 21:52 | ||
dsl ![]() | Doesn't look to me as if it is the ex-Glas bodywork, and has 4 headlights. [E3] 2500?? | 2011-08-15 20:53
Sculu ![]() | I dont think it is a 1800 SA.I have a 1968 SA and the difference is very obvious. Maybe i am wrong as you cant c the front clearly . Maybe i must post a Photo. | 2011-08-15 20:47
mazeltough ![]() | Look closely at the rear fender, above the rear wheel opening, you can see by the discolouration where the rear doors seem to have been welded shut and sealed with compound. It\'s difficult to notice at first because the car\'s in such a dreadful condition. | 2011-05-20 00:05
anfi steerings1 ![]() | The SA version may be the same in many ways but the steering box differs completly with the Rhod Cheetah i have just rebuild a Cheetah box. | 2011-05-12 19:06
dsl ![]() | Would be L trim as UK car. | 2010-10-11 17:06
Sunbar ![]() | ... other than the similar but not identical body, its confirmed as a Victor FD by having full-sized side windows without the extra quarter-lites seen on the Ranger. | 2010-08-17 16:34
chris40 ![]() | Filming locations included Zimbabwe and Kenya, but (unsurprisingly) not South Africa. This is definitely a 1971 Victor [FD]. | 2010-08-17 16:25
mazeltough ![]() | The FD Victor was never assembled nor sold in South Africa. The "Ranger" replaced the Victor FC. | 2010-08-17 15:25
mazeltough ![]() | Not a Plymouth Valiant but a "Valiant Rebel" | 2010-08-17 15:21
matty ![]() | I almost want to say four stars. It was used by the main character and his family throughout the movie. | 2010-04-15 02:46
electra225 ![]() | Right hand drice but a 4 door without top. Look at the front doors widght. | 2009-11-22 09:15
ingo ![]() | It's a German car and a BMW [E3] anyways, it's just the question, if it's a ZA-assembled version. I thought before, that the [E3] was also made there, but Ralph must know it better. |
2009-03-28 18:08 | ||
Firebird86 ![]() | As long as BMW remains as the Maker, the Germany flag automatically appears. | 2009-03-28 18:00 |
